On the one hand synchronous learning in online courses becomes a conscious choice, and on the other hand it is necessity caused by rapid technological progress, globalization and growing competitiveness in the education area. Higher education, facing market demands and the need to provide high-quality educational services, increasingly is offering for students modern online education, focusing on various technologies which require cooperation, dialogue and online activity. One of the ways to keep up with the above determinants is synchronous online learning.

The article indicates the advantages of the synchronous approach in online learning. Article presents case study, which preceded the decision of choosing tool for synchronous communication and what criteria are important for selecting a tool.
