The article reviews the approaches to the use of UML diagrams for object-oriented modelling in the development of information systems in the energy sector, both in terms of regulatory documents and functional specifications for the developed information systems. The article highlights the possibility of using UML diagrams not only for further use in object-oriented design, but also for a more convenient and understandable presentation of the object of study. Examples of the use of class, sequence, state, and activity diagrams are given. It is emphasised that it is possible to use the UML metamodel while deviating from the syntax requirements. Examples and evidence of the practical use of diagrams for both regulatory documents and functional specifications not related to the object-oriented design process are given.
